Week 1- Twitter

My entrepreneurship idea is to create a make-your-own burrito restaurant. I am a hospitality management major, so this directly relates to the field I want to pursue in the future. The restaurant will be informal- you have the option to stay and eat or take it to go. I got the idea from my favorite frozen yogurt place in New York City- 16 Handles. 16 Handles has the same idea in that you dispense the yogurt and put the toppings on yourself. I really like this idea because whenever I go to Chipotle they never make the burrito the way I want it. This way you can customize the burrito with everything you want and however much you want. At the end of the line there will be someone to wrap your burrito- in case you need help. Then you will place the burrito on a scale to see how much it weighs; depending on what kind of meat you get you will be charged accordingly.
In relation to social media, more specifically twitter, we will have an active twitter account. We will use the twitter account to supply customers with daily specials and coupons. This will make people want to follow us on Twitter in order to save on their food. Another good idea is to have a “salsa of the day”. Everyday of the week there will be a different salsa and people can find out about what the salsa of the day is by following us on Twitter.
We can also you the twitter account to follow other competitor restaurants; this would be helpful to know what other restaurants are doing to get more business.  Since this is a unique idea there isn’t much competition, however, quick service restaurants like Chipotle and Qdoba are in the same type of business.  It is very important to know where competitor restaurants stand and to make your restaurant stand out, which can be successfully done via twitter.

  1. It is good that you are working on an idea within an industry that you are interested in, hospitality. Are there any other places that let you do the a la carte style mexican food? In some ways this reminds me of a place called Fire and Ice where you get a bowl and you can put what ever you want to eat in the bowl and they will cook it for you rather than ordering something off of the menu. I could see this idea being pretty popular. Good job relating the content back to the course lectures.

  2. I really like this idea (considering I hate the way Chipotle makes my burrito as well). Your comments on Twitter are a great way of engaging with customers and perhaps you can utilize it further by interacting with customers. Maybe take a poll on what toppings customers would like or have a competition for who can tweet the tastiest makeup of a burrito--that way customers will not only feel connected personally to the company but you'll also get free advertising for your venue!

This probably isn't applicable to your restaurant considering it'd probably be better stationary but a really big thing in LA is the Kogi Truck (or food trucks in general). The Kogi Truck is just a mobile food truck that sells Mexican-Korean fusion food. Because the truck couldn't be stationary for long periods of time, they would tweet their location and it became a gigantic fad and something fun to look out for. The fact that the food was novel and that it was served without a schedule made it all the more lucrative (especially to bored teenagers and college students). Just a thought.

  3. another useful thing about twitter is that you can DM (direct message) people that are interested in being a part of your restaurant. What I plan to do with my bakery and twitter is that I plan on having people DM me to make appointments for interviews. It's quicker than setting up appointments via e-mail or phone calls. Twitter is instantaneous and it's more popular and easier to work with.

I love this idea because I agree with the comment above - chipotle sucks at wrapping burritos sometimes.

  4. I think this is a great idea. A lot of times food is not necesairly cooked or made in the way you want it, so this gives people the chance to pick and choose what they want on their burrito. I think that the best bet would be to make your own burrito website including a list of every topping you have and the "special" on different days. Then you can still tweet about it, but people will be able to go to an actual website regarding the burrito restaurant.
